Feb 3rd... what a day...

It's my sister's birthday Tuesday. It's funny what time does. When we were little, I was so jealous. She could do anything, with no fear. She rode the biggest horse, she took on the biggest pigs and cows to feed. She was the apple of my grandpa's eye, and she can cook just like grandma. Although, I walked better than her... damn dysplasia ! ha !

This is her in Aug of 1981, 18 years old. In some bay somewhere in Alaska on a skiff for a boat called Bountiful. Ditched walking across the stage at graduation to do this. She's still doing this... and I'm still in awe.

This is us before the Vegas race in December of 2008. In 2007, I called her to let her know she'd made a mistake and had registered for the FULL instead of the HALF. She said she thought she'd try the full.... oh... ok..... I was dying with a major shin splint, she ran with me, at the Bellagio, you know, like 3 miles into it, I found the biggest pothole and rolled my ankle. She stopped and asked if I was OK... yep, I said, go... she said no, I'll walk with you. I said NO... go ! We hugged, and off she went, she glanced over her shoulder one last time, and she was gone. She rocked her first full marathon. Crossed with a huge smile on her face and me yelling WAHOOO CISCO at the finish. I was incredibly proud and humbled by such a major accomplishment.

In 2008... we knew what to do. Hug at the start, before the gun went off, say 'good race to you' and off she went. Again.... she rocked another full marathon, knocking off a substantial amount of time. And me, at the finish, running on the other side of the barrier, screaming "PUSH IT CISCO... YOU BETTER RUN !!" and run she did. And crossed the line with another smile.

I hope that her day is full of smiles, and kicking ass, and sunshine. She deserves it.
